REPORT of Five Days Workshop on
“Skill Enhancement for Dosage Form Development” (10th to 14th July 2023)
Five days workshop on “Skill Enhancement for Dosage Form Development” was
jointly organized by Shree S. K. Patel College of Pharmaceutical Education and Research,
Ganpat University & Shri B.V. Patel Education Trust, Ahmedabad from 10th to 14th July 2023.
The financial support of Rs. 23,000/- was received from Shri B.V. Patel Education
Trust. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Rakesh P. Patel, GUNI-SKPCPER & Dr. Neeta
Shrivastava, BVPET. In this workshop, 25 undergraduate students from three colleges were
participated.
This workshop was aimed to enhance the skills and understanding of participants for
the dosage form development. This workshop included 4 theory sessions, 4 practical sessions,
1 industrial visit and demonstration of sophisticated instruments used for the development of
various dosage forms. Participants of this workshop also learnt various characterization
techniques like DSC, FTIR, photomicrograph, etc.
The workshop started with inaugural function on 10th July 2023. Dr. S. S. Pancholi
Executive Dean, FOP and FOS and principal, SKPCPER, Ganpat University welcome the
participants and has encouraged and explained the importance of the workshop in their
professional and education development. Dr. Rakesh P. Patel, Professor and head of the
department, Pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology, SKPCPER, Ganpat University
gave overview of the program. Dr. Manish Nivsarkar, Director, BVPET gave information to
participants on how this trust works and importance of it. Dr. P D Bharadia sir, Professor, L.
M. College of Pharmacy, Ahemdabad to give keynote address on the workshop. Dr. B. G.
Prajapati has delivered Vote of thanks at the end of Inaugural function.

The first session was delivered by Dr. P. D. Bharadia, Professor, L. M. College of Pharmacy, Ahemdabad on “Preformulation in pharmaceutical product development”. During his session, Dr. Bharadia described concepts of preformulation studies and gave overview of need of preformulation in development of dosage forms and different delivery systems such as Ocular drug delivery, Transdermal drug delivery, Gastroretentive systems, Protein & Peptide delivery systems.
In the afternoon of the first day of workshop, a practical session was conducted by Dr. Geeta Patel, Assistant Professor, SKPCPER, GUNI on Preparation and Evaluation of Floating Tablets. In this session, Dr. Geeta explained various aspects of Floating Tablets like selection criteria of drug, various types of ingredients and polymers and evaluation parameters of Floating Tablet. She demonstrated how to prepare and evaluate floating tablet of Diclofenac potassium.
On the second day of the workshop, the theory session was delivered by Dr. Manju Mishra, Associate Professor, Graduate school of pharmacy, GTU, Gandhinagar on “Vesicular drug delivery systems”. Dr. Manju explained Trends in Vesicular drug delivery, current paradigms and applications. She also explained structure composition of Liposomes, Niosomes, Phytosomes and Aquasomes. She discussed various compositions.

In the afternoon of the sesond day of workshop, a practical session was conducted by Dr. B. G. Prajapati, Professor, SKPCPER, GUNI on Preparation and Evaluation of Nanoemulsion. In this session, Dr. Prajapati explained various aspects of preparation and evaluation of Nanoemulsion.
On day 3, the theory session delivered by Dr. D. M. Patel, Associate Professor, GTU-GSP, Ahmedabad, on “Transdermal drug delivery systems”. Dr. D. M. Patel has explained all the theoretical concepts of skin structure, mechanism of drug absorption,transdermal patches, its applications and importance.
In the afternoon of the third day of workshop, a practical session was conducted by Dr. Nikunjana Patel, Professor, SKPCPER, on “Preparation and evaluation of Transdermal Patch Formulation”. In her session, Dr. Nikunjana detailed out various types of TD patch, materials and their role, selection criteria of drug, preparation method and evaluation parameters of TD patch. She gave practical demonstration for how to prepare and evaluate TD patch of Diclofenac potassium using different types of matrix forming polymers.

On day 3, the theory session delivered by Mr. Kaushal Patel, DGM- Technical services and BD Transchem Corporation Pharma Pvt. Ltd. on “Importance of Excipients in Formulation and Development”. Mr. Kaushal gave overview of different types of excipients used in the pharmaceutical products. He also gave market potential and regulatory requiremrtnts of various excipients supplied by BASF.
In the afternoon, practical session was delivered by Dr. Rakesh P. Patel, Professor, SKPCPER-GUNI on “Study of Drug Excipient interaction using FTIR and DSC”. In his session, Dr. Patel explained principle, importance and operations of FTIR and DSC in studying Drug Excipient comptibility.
On the day 5, participants were made to visit Camper Healthcare which was conducted by Dr. Rakesh Patel, Head of the department, SKPCPER and showed Manufacturing process of pharmaceutical oral solid and liquid formulations. Dr. B. G. Prajapati, Professor, SKPCPER, Ganpat University, gave demonstration of various sophisticated equipments like High Speed Homogenizer, High Pressure Homogenizer, Lyophilizer, Spray Dryer and Tablet Compression machine.

In the last session of valedictory function on Day 5, Dr. S. S. Pancholi has welcomed invited guest and gave concluding remarks. Dr. Manish Nivsarkar, BVPET inspired the participants to come forward and attend such workshop. Participants gave feedback about the workshop followed by distribution of Certificates for participation to the participants by guests of the function. At the end of the valedictory function, vote of thanks were delivered by Dr. Rakesh P. Patel.
