Visit to Wheat Research Station, Vijapur, Mehsana
Description
KKIASR of Ganpat University organized an enriching visit for 4th & 2nd semester students to Wheat Research Station, Vijapur on February 2, 2024. Wheat Research Station us an institute located in Vijapur, Gujarat, India. Research Station work on mainly maintain gene bank, quality seed production and research on wheat crop to produce hybrid and solve farmers problems. The journey commenced at 09:15 AM from Ganpat University campus with the 4th & 2nd Semester students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture.
The area of station is 56 hectare and mainly focus on quality seed production and implantation problem solving strategies for the farmers. Dr. Ronak Thakkar, Agricultural Research Scientist, Wheat Research Station, Vijapur warmly welcomed the students and faculty co-ordinators of KKIASR. Following necessary formalities, the students received an insightful overview of Wheat Research Station, becoming acquainted with its various functional units, Laboratory, farms and various departments.
He provided a glimpse into field demonstrations that highlighted the practical application of fungicides and the utilization of wheat cultivars with resistance. During interactive sessions, students actively participated in discussions with researchers, acquiring valuable insights into the prevailing challenges in wheat farming and the crucial role of research in tackling these issues. Researchers shared their expertise in the development of rust-resistant wheat varieties and delved into ongoing projects. Students had the opportunity to observe diverse wheat varieties and identify various stages of wheat rust, encompassing stem rust, leaf rust, and stripe rust.
