Visit to “Agricultural Research Station, Ladol”
Description
On February 2, 2024, Ganpat University's Kantaben Kashiram Institute of Agriculture Sciences and Research organized a visit for B.Sc. Agriculture Semester II & IV students to the Agricultural Research Station in Ladol, Mehsana. The trip commenced with great enthusiasm as students and faculty left the university at 9:00 AM, arriving at their destination by 11:00 AM.
A farm visit started with Dr. H. V. Vihol, the Head of the Unit, provided an overview of the farm, highlighted the numerous ongoing projects, and demonstrated olive plant cultivation. The Agricultural Research Station in Ladol spans 100 acres, primarily concentrating on certified seed production. Following this, Dr. Dhaval Chaudhari, a Research Scientist, elaborated on ongoing projects and the seed production process, emphasizing breeding methods. The students energetically toured the entire farm.
Our visit to the farm proved to be an insightful journey for students as they explored various facets of agricultural practices. The Agro-meteorology observatory provided valuable insights into the climatic aspects influencing crop growth. Witnessing castor seed and mustard seed production processes enhanced their understanding of diverse crop cultivation methods.
The olive plantation showcased a different dimension of agriculture, exposing students to the cultivation of this unique crop. Moreover, students acquired knowledge about the intricacies of managing insects, pests, diseases, and physiological disorders that impact different crops, enriching their understanding of crop protection measures. The significant of on-going projects aimed to bridge the gap between research and practical implementation, providing students with a holistic view of the agricultural landscape.
Overall, the visit offered a comprehensive learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical exposure, and enabling students to appreciate the complexities and nuances of modern agricultural practices
