One-Day Symposium on “CRISPR Genome Editing: Generating Mouse Models for Human Therapeutics”
Description
Introduction: Following the participation in the Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “CRISPR Genome Editing: Generating Mouse Models for Human Therapeutics” organized by the Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine, Bangalore-India, and supported by the Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission, Government of Gujarat, from February 5th-9th, 2024, I was entrusted with the responsibility of organizing a symposium on the same topic at our institute. The objective of this symposium was to disseminate the knowledge gained during the FDP and to enhance the understanding of CRISPR technology among students and faculty members.
Symposium Overview: The one-day symposium on “CRISPR Genome Editing: Generating Mouse Models for Human Therapeutics” was held on March 1, 2024, at the Mehsana Urban Institute of Science. The event commenced at 9:00 AM with an opening address that highlighted the importance of CRISPR technology in modern biotechnology and its applications in developing therapeutic models.
Speakers and Sessions: The symposium featured three distinguished speakers who shared their expertise on various aspects of CRISPR technology:
- Dr. Sanjay Ghosh: Dr. Ghosh delivered his session online on the topic "CRISPR Technology and its Applications." He provided an overview of the CRISPR-Cas system, emphasizing its revolutionary impact on genetic research and its potential in therapeutic applications.
- Dr. Gopal Jee Gopal: Dr. Gopal delivered his session in person at the seminar hall. His topic, "CRISPR Genome Editing: Generating Mouse Models for Human Therapeutics," delved into the practical aspects of using CRISPR technology to create genetically modified mouse models that can be used for studying human diseases and developing new treatments.
- Dr. Priyanka Chauhan: Dr. Chauhan delivered her session online, focusing on "Introduction of Bioinformatics Tools for Synthesis of sgRNA for CRISPR-Cas Genome Editing." She discussed the importance of bioinformatics in designing single-guide RNAs (sgRNAs) and how these tools can optimize CRISPR-Cas genome editing experiments.
Participation: The symposium attracted significant interest, with 65 students registering for the event. The attendees actively engaged in the sessions, asking questions, and participating in discussions, which added to the depth of the learning experience.
Conclusion: The symposium was successful in achieving its goal of providing a comprehensive understanding of CRISPR genome editing and its applications in creating mouse models for human therapeutics. The knowledge shared by the expert speakers greatly benefited the students and faculty, contributing to the academic and research environment at our institute.
Acknowledgments: We extend our heartfelt thanks to the speakers, Dr. Sanjay Ghosh, Dr. Gopal Jee Gopal, and Dr. Priyanka Chauhan, for their valuable contributions. We also express our gratitude to the administration of Ganpat University and the Mehsana Urban Institute of Science for their support in organizing this symposium. Finally, we thank all the participants for their enthusiastic involvement in making this event a success.
