In collaboration with the Horizon Science Club, the Mehsana Urban Institute of Sciences at Ganpat University is thrilled to announce the Celebration of International Microorganism Day: BioGenius 2024 on 17th September 2024!

This event promises to be an exciting convergence of minds, where students, researchers, and enthusiasts will gather to explore the fascinating world of microorganisms.

With a series of enlightening seminars, interactive sessions, and engaging activities, BioGenius 2024 aims to highlight the pivotal role microorganisms play in our lives and the environment.

Join us for a day of discovery, innovation, and scientific exploration as we celebrate the incredible diversity and potential of the microbial world!

International Microorganism Day (IMD) is celebrated worldwide, led by the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) and launched by the Portuguese Society of Microbiology.

We are proud to announce that Ganpat University – Mehsana Urban Institute of Sciences (GUNI-MUIS) is one of the recognized institutions celebrating this important occasion in collaboration with IMD.

Agar Art: Event Rules and Regulations:
  1. Eligibility
    • Individual participation only.
    • Registration is required by timeline before 5 days
  2. Art Requirements
    • Create artwork using living microorganisms on agar plates.
    • The art should be original and made by the participant using safe and approved strains of microorganisms (e.g., non-pathogenic bacteria or fungi).
    • The size of the agar plate can vary, but the standard size is a Petri dish (90 mm diameter).
    • The design should be visually appealing and scientifically relevant.
    • No artificial dyes can be used, only pigmented or white strains of bacteria are allowed.
  3. Submission Guidelines
    • Include a brief description (50-100 words) of your artwork, explaining the microorganisms used and the concept behind the design.
    • Ensure the agar plate is labeled with your name and the artwork's title (on the back of the lid).
  4. Judging Criteria
    • Creativity: Originality and innovation in using microorganisms to create art.
    • Aesthetic Appeal: Visual beauty and composition of the artwork.
    • Scientific Relevance: Correct use of microorganisms and relevance to microbiology.
    • Technique: Skill in culturing and arranging the microorganisms.
  5. Health & Safety
    • Only non-pathogenic microorganisms should be used.
    • All work must be carried out in a lab setting with proper safety procedures.
    • Dispose of agar plates and materials safely after the event.

SciToon: Biology-Related Cartoon:

  1. Eligibility
    • Individual participation only.
    • Registration is required by timeline before 5 days
  2. Cartoon Requirements
    • Create a cartoon or comic strip that is related to any topic in biology (e.g., microbiology, genetics, ecology, etc.).
    • The cartoon must be original and not previously published.
    • The cartoon can be in colour or black-and-white.
    • The maximum length is one page (A2 size) (420 mm x 594 mm or 16.5" x 23.4" inch )
    • The content should be educational, humorous, or thought-provoking, while clearly conveying a Scientific concept.
  3. Submission Guidelines
    • The cartoon should be titled, but your name should not appear on the cartoon itself to ensure anonymous judging.
    • A separate document should include your name, contact details, and the title of the cartoon.
  4. Judging Criteria
    • Relevance: The connection to biological themes or concepts.
    • Creativity: Originality and creativity in presenting the concept.
    • Clarity: How clearly the biological idea is communicated.
    • Artistic Quality: Overall visual appeal and craftsmanship.
    • Humor/Impact: The ability to engage the audience, whether through humor, education, or thoughtfulness.

Nature’s Harmony (Poetry):

  1. Eligibility
    • Participants can register for Individual
    • Registration is required by timeline before 5 days
  2. Poetry Requirements
    • Poems should focus on themes related to nature, ecology, or the environment.
    • Each participant may submit only one poem.
    • Poems can be written in English, Hindi, or Gujarati.
    • The poem should be original, not previously published, and must not exceed 30 lines.
    • The poem can be in any style or form (e.g., free verse, sonnet, haiku).
  3. Submission Guidelines
    • Submit your poem by [insert submission deadline].
    • The poem should be typed and submitted in hard copy.
    • Include the title of the poem, but do not include your name on the poem itself to ensure anonymous judging.
    • A separate document should include your name, contact details, and the title of the poem.
  4. Judging Criteria
    • Theme: Relevance to the theme of nature or the environment.
    • Creativity: Originality and imagination in expressing the theme.
    • Language: Use of language, including word choice, imagery, and rhythm.
    • Emotional Impact: Ability to evoke emotions and connect with the reader.
    • Structure: Organization and flow of the poem.

Bio Startup Idea:

  1. Eligibility
    • Participants can register in teams (1 minimum and maximum of 3 members).
    • Registration is required by timeline before 5 days
  2. Poster Requirements
    • The poster should present a startup idea related to biotechnology, microbiology, or any science discipline.
    • The poster must be 2 feet by 3 feet or 24 X 36 inches in size (portrait orientation).
    • Include the startup's name, concept, target audience, potential impact, and any other relevant information.
    • The poster should be visually appealing, easy to read, and informative.
    • All work must be original and created by the participant(s).
  3. Submission Guidelines
    • Submit your poster at the designated event venue.
    • Ensure the poster is printed or created on a sturdy material that can be easily displayed.
    • Participants may also need to give a brief (2-3 minute) presentation of their startup idea during the event.
  4. Judging Criteria
    • Innovation: Originality and creativity of the startup idea.
    • Feasibility: Practicality and potential for implementation.
    • Clarity: How clearly the idea is communicated through the poster.
    • Impact: Potential impact on society, the environment, or the field of biology.
    • Design: Visual appeal and organization of the poster.

BioModel:

  1. Eligibility
    • Participants can register in teams (maximum of 3 members).
    • Registration is required by timeline before 5 days
  2. Model Requirements
    • Create a 3D model related to biomolecules, cells, cell processes, cell organelles, parasites, or any related biological topic.
    • The model can be made using any material, but it must be sturdy and portable.
    • Models should be scientifically accurate and clearly labeled.
    • All work must be original and created by the participant(s).
  3. Submission Guidelines
    • Submit your model at the designated event venue.
    • Include a brief explanation (100-150 words) of your model, describing its components and the biological concepts it represents.
  4. Judging Criteria
    • Scientific Accuracy: Correctness of the biological information.
    • Creativity: Originality and innovation in model design.
    • Clarity: How clearly the model represents the biological concept.
    • Presentation: Neatness and overall visual appeal of the model.
    • Functionality: Any moving parts or interactive elements (if applicable).
  5. Conduct
    • All models must be respectful and appropriate for an academic setting.
    • Participants are expected to maintain a positive and respectful attitude.

    • Provide a brief description (50-100 words) of the BioModel and purpose in the A4 page

Art with Vegetables:

  1. Eligibility
    • Participants can register in teams (maximum of 3 members).
    • Registration is required by timeline before 5 days.
  2. Art Requirements
  • Participants must create a design or painting using vegetables as the primary medium.
  • The art piece can be a direct vegetable design (e.g., vegetable carving) or a painting using vegetable-based dyes or paints.
  • All work must be original and created by the participant.
  1. Submission Guidelines
  • Completed artwork must be submitted at time of the event
  • Submit your artwork along with a brief description (50-100 words) explaining the concept and the vegetables used.
  • Physical submissions may be required for final judging (details to be provided).
  1. Judging Criteria
  • Creativity: Originality in the use of vegetables.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Visual attractiveness of the design or painting.
  • Skill: Technique and craftsmanship.
  • Concept: The idea or message behind the artwork.
  • Sustainability: Use of vegetables in a way that minimizes waste.

  • Ensure all vegetables used are clean and safe to handle.
  • Handle any cutting tools or sharp objects with care.

MicroCineVision (Reels):

  1. Eligibility
    • Participants can register in teams (1 minimum and maximum of 3 members).
    • Registration is required by timeline before 5 days.

  • The reel must focus on a bio-related topic (e.g., microbiology, biotechnology, environmental biology, or any allied subject of Life Science).
  • Reels should be 30 seconds in length.
  • Content must be original and not infringe on any copyrights.
  • The reel should be educational, informative, or creatively present a bio-related concept.
  • Any Equipment and software can be used to create the Reels

  • Reels must be submitted in MP4 format. before 3 days.

  1. Dish Requirements
    • Your dish must involve microorganisms (e.g., yogurt, bread).
    • Ensure all ingredients are safe to eat and the dish is prepared hygienically at home.
    • Submit a brief description (100-150 words) of the dish, including the microorganism used.
  2. Submission
    • Bring your dish to the event.
    • Provide your serving utensils and container.
  3. Judging Criteria
    • Innovation: Creativity in using microorganisms.
    • Taste: Flavor of the dish.
    • Presentation: How the dish looks.
    • Scientific Relevance: Correct use of microorganisms.
    • Hygiene: Cleanliness in preparation and presentation.
  4. Health & Safety
    • Ensure your dish is safe to eat. Disclose any allergens.
  5. Conduct
    • Provide a brief description (50-100 words) of the Food With Microbes topic and purpose in the A4 page
